Mike has worked as an artist for Marvel, DC, and Valiant. Leaving comic books in 1997, Mike moved on to the computer game and animation industries.
While working as a comic book artist, Harris enlisted in the New York Army National Guard as a Cavalry Scout, 19D, with the 1-101st Cavalry in 1986. He was selected to attend Officer Candidate School and was commissioned in 1988 as an Armored Cavalry officer. He continued to serve while working as an illustrator from 1986 through 2004, and served on active duty from 2004-2014. He deployed to Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom from 2004-2005 and again in 2008 on Leaders’ Reconnaissance missions in support of deploying units. He retired from the Army in 2016, at the rank of lieutenant colonel, after thirty years of active and reserve service. His awards include the Legion of Merit, the Meritorious Service Medal, Army Reserve Commendation Medal (four awards), the Army Achievement Medal, the New York State award for Support to Civil Authority, a Meritorious Unit Citation and a Superior.
